2003-2004 Ski Trip Report - Day 9

Sunday, February 29th, 2004 - Hamilton, Montana

Sunday brought no new snow, and a tired group of skiers. Since E had missed out on skiing for the week, it was a great day for her to head out to slopes with the guys. Unfortunately, nobody had much motivation for skiing, so the morning sort of melted away as everyone relaxed. We did get in plenty of Xbox; since Greg had been kind enough to bring it (I'd say it's becoming a new standard ski trip accessory).

Since everyone was hanging around town for the day, E and I took Ty down to the river with the intention of taking his 1-year photographs. James and Dave accompanied us, and all told I bet we got 60-80 pictures from the photo shoot. Although it was February, the valley temperature was pretty mild so it was fun being out and about.

In the evening, we all went out for dinner at the Lost Horse Creek Lodge, a place E and I had discovered a few months earlier. The Lost Horse Creek Lodge seems to be the kind of place that people come for vacations, and stay in cabins while they do Montana stuff like ride horses etc. The thing is, they have a great restaurant that is almost always deserted. When E and I had gone with Ty earlier, we were the only ones for dinner sitting in their more informal bar area, and in this instance, our group had the huge dining room all to ourselves. It was a nice way to end our ski week, and send the guys off with a good meal.

So, although we didn't have quite the snowfall we did for the 2002-2003 trip (it's hard to beat 80 inches in a week) we still got in some great powder skiing like one would expect for Montana. Certainly, getting the chance to check out the Headwaters at Moonlight Basin was a special experience. I'd especially like to get back there on a clear day to take in more of the scenery while I skied. For our 2004-2005 ski trip, we headed up to Kicking Horse Mountain resort in British Columbia, and as usual we spent some days at Lost Trail. I'll have a report for our 2004-2005 ski trip in the future, but for now you can check out a preview of some of our photos from Kicking Horse and Lost Trail.
