Northern Rockies Ahead Reviews/Comments

I recieved the latest feature film from J&E Productions today. Took it out
of the package and popped the DVD in....

Folks, this thing is a work of art and it makes me wonder if Jay, Erica and
company skied anything but pow and spring corn all season long. The
soundtrack was great with a wide range of variety (Counting Crows, Foo
Fighters, Linkin Park, and I think I heard some Jimmy Eat World or Smashing
Pumpkins thrown in there for good measure).

The DVD does have a lot of added features which I'll have to play around
with later, but ohhh the powder. For $10 this was probably the best ski
film I've ever bought (in terms of cost vs. quality).

Great work with the camera Jay and Erica...Pretty much all of the shots
were so steady I would've thought you guys were carrying around a tripod.

I loved the Lost Trail Powder Mountain segments and also the Beartooth Pass
spring sequence. The movie seems to move from winter powder scenes in the
first half to more spring-time backcountry skiing. Jay's friend who was
telemarking (Jon, I think?) and in a lot of segments was phenominal. It
really makes me want to learn how to telemark.

The movie finished off with a nice crash segment which morphed into a
little air segment.

A big two thumbs up to Jay and Erica. I can't wait for next year's movie.

PS: 1)I want to go skiing now and 2) I want to move to Montana.

Just needed to say wow for the latest ski film. Superb work, I greatly
prefer the DVD format. The mix CD has already found a home in my car.
KUDOS!

Hey - I kicked up the new Ski Flick DVD over at a buddies place on a 51"
Widescreen HDTV with Component connections
at a 16:9 aspect ratio (progressive scan DVD player). WOW. So clear it
was not even funny. Night and day between watching
on a regular TV with RGB cables and that set-up.

NOTE - My DVD player was choking a tiny bit transitioning from the action
menu to the selected topic but
not a flicker from his newer one - I don't think the burn is an issue with
any complaints you may get, seems a
compatibility issue only.

Thanks for yet another impressive movie!

FWIW, audio and visual playback on a
Smasung DVD-V2000 was *extremely* jerky
(two or three glitches a second) but
the player never gave up.

I did receive the DVD on Monday, and I did watch it through a colleague's
laptop at work on my nightshift the same night (Monday night is very quiet
at Pafos airport!). Well, you did an amazing job! I think it's by far your
best movie so far. Congratulations!!! I wish I was not on the other side of
the world so that I could participate in it. I did watch it on my home PC
again last night, it was the best way to cool myself in a terribly hot and
humid night (it was 90+ at midnight!). I was feeling like I was there with
you, it was so alive! Many many thanks for keeping in touch in such a
beautiful way!

Great film. Only problem with it was that watching it made me miss skiing even
more. However, seeing I should be out there
in the next week makes it a little easier to take.

Now to the film.

Your opening scene of introductions complete with the music was great. The
shots of skiing Montana powder were also a blast to watch (probably
my favorite scenes). You also had a number of scenes with great tunes that
complemented the film real well, and I especially liked the way you linked
various segments together, giving it a better flow and story then most of the
ski porn I've watched (save for Greg Stump who's stuff is still better then what
we're getting today). Even the short interviews were pretty good.

If had to give suggestions for the next film, I'd say keep getting in those
great shots of Montana steeps, powder and trees. Filming on the flats and the
groomed
seems a little ho-hum on film. And don't be afraid to keep filming scenes of
the towns and stuff, which I thought you did quite well, as it gives us New
Englanders a little idea of what the culture is like out there.

Now, gotta get those skis tuned for this weekend!

p.s. Very innovative way E has of cutting down Christmas trees. One of the
funniest ski scenes I've seen!
