J.Spin pops off a knoll at speed on Sunrise (North Lynx). James chose this shot. This image was VERY dark, so it may look a bit processed, but I did all I could to make the figure more that a black shadow in the image.
This shot is along the right side of the Sunrise trail off North Lynx. Although J.Spin doesn't know what it's called, he's attempting to make a sweeping turn in the powder with equal extension of both legs (which generates a lot of pressure on the INSIDE ski). This is at the end of the turn where he is popping back out of the powder. Earlier images in the sequence did not really give an idea of what was happening because both skis were buried in the snow. J.Spin has seen this turn done in movies, if anyone knows the name of it, let him know because he is curious. Email: <jsilveir@zoo.uvm.edu>
James plows the pow on the left side of Waterfall below the Gate House Quad. The steep slope and wind protection often provide some great turns here; always one of Greg's favorite spots on a powder day.
James is back in the deep on the left side of Sunrise, he can't get enough of a good thing. The powder was about 7% water by our rough estimates, but was getting lighter as the day went on and temperatures started to cool down a bit.
This was another pretty dark one that I had to process pretty heavily. It's James off the right side of Birdland, a region known to us as " The Upper Deck". There are plenty of small trees in there that can generate a lot of fun (and trouble) for skiers. I was hoping that one of those little evergreens would give James a nice tumble for the camera, but no such luck. He reported the conditions were a bit wind-packed in that area; it's exposed to the wind whipping across Birdland.
James runs through one of his favorite regions in the Lower Jester Woods; we shot a good chunk of video in there.
J.Spin flirts with the flora in the Lower Jester Woods. He didn't really have anything against that little tree; both parties came out unscathed.
The Lower Jester woods were really holding the snow. J.Spin takes what must have been a face shot, nearly a goggle shot. Coming off a jump sent him under the snow just that much deeper. The credit goes to James as he just happened to catch this one when we were reviewing the video.
J.Spin shoots for a high branch in the Spring Fling Woods. James was afraid that he cut off J.Spin head in the shot, so he made him hike up and repeat it. He then widened it out and shot again.
