The view of Burke Mountain's slopes as we approach the area. The slopes visible here are on the main mountain. The large one in the middle is Upper Warren's Way, where we saw people running gates.
This is one of the many views that you can take in at Burke. The interestingly shaped mountain on the right is Mt. Pisgah (2,751'), and the broad mountain to the left is Mt. Hor (2,648'). In between is Lake Willoughby which is a long, narrow land-locked fjord. Both mountains offer great views (due to dramatic 1,000' cliffs that drop into the lake) from relatively short hikes. We hiked Mt. Pisgah in the fall a couple years ago and would highly recommend it.
E descends toward the base lodge alongside the J-Bar lift. In the background you can see Mt. Pisgah and Mt. Hor. We were the only people present when they opened up the J-Bar for the day, so we helped ourselves to some fresh corduroy.
There was something very familiar about the folks I saw at Burke! ? I like the message that Homer is sending ;)
J.Spin skis the powder in the second glade that we entered. It had a little better base, and a little more powder than the first glade. Four to six inches of new snow over a firm base was what we observed for the most part.
E lays down some tracks in the same glade. I really liked this picture for a number of reasons: the contrast of light and dark areas due to the tree shadows, the proper exposure to capture the color on the figure without bleaching the snow, and the interesting angle of the slope. Not to mention that we had the entire glade to ourselves to set up and get fresh tracks. This is one of my favorite pictures of the season so far, certainly a keeper.
