OUR MORNING AT WHITEWATER

Greg, just to the skier's right of the Concentrator trail, in the Concentrator Trees. Here you can see him as he blasts his way off a traverse onto the steep slope below. The Silver King Chair lift is just past those trees to his left. We only had about 3-4 inches of new snow, but the traffic is relatively light at Whitewater so the terrain stayed soft.
Here's James crashing through some trees just above where Greg was in the last picture. Knocking snow off the trees became one of our favorite pastimes at both Whitewater and Red Mountain. In the top right hand corner of the picture, you can see a portion of the Silver King Chair just as it starts to flatten out at the upper green slopes.

From left to right: J.Spin, James and Dave try to synchronize a jump for the camera. Unfortunately, J.Spin left too early and ruined the effort. Notice how nicely James and Dave are in synch as they start to launch. We commend their work :)

We finally worked our way over to the steep slopes off the Summit Chair. To the skier's left of the Summit chair (see bright box on map), we found some incredible, steep chutes among the trees. Chris did the filming as the rest of us shot the chute and boy did he have his work cut out for him. The steep slope let snow fly as each skier passed, and Chris had to concentrate on not getting buried from his position at the bottom. You can get a good idea of how steep this slope is by taking a look at J.Spin in the picture on the left. His right knee is nearly up in his face, while his left leg is well extended as he finishes his turn. More kudos to Chris for holding tight with the camera as J.Spin skirted just past him and contributed to his burial in snow. I think it made for a nice action shot though. E was very impressed with the amount of snow that Whitewater had, and the fact that even though all of us came down the same chute and pushed tons of snow down the hill, it just revealed more fluffy light stuff below. That's what you can get if the snowpack doesn't freeze and thaw too often. We didn't explore much farther to the skier's left in these woods, but as I look at the map above right now, the words "CLIFF AREA" are clearly visible (see for yourself on the map above). That should at least give an idea of just how steep the terrain is in the area. Be careful out there when you visit Whitewater.

Here are a couple more shots from the same chute that give a wider view of the terrain. On the left, Greg works his way down the chute; he wished he had something smaller than his 205's for this line. On the right, E prepares a bunch of snow to bury our cameraman ;) OK, actually she just stopped to survey her line.
Phew, after that slope, it had to be time for a quick lunch. Get your grub, and we'll see you when we head "slightly" out of bounds in our AFTERNOON AT WHITEWATER...
